The term Canadian referred to anything or anyone that originated from the Earth country of Canada.
In 2370, Ben told Sam Lavelle that William T. Riker was Canadian. When Lavelle, whose grandfather was Canadian, tried to connect with Riker using this commonality, Riker corrected Lavelle, saying he actually grew up in Alaska. (TNG: "Lower Decks")
