Cannibalization was a means of removing functional technology or other salvage from one mechanism to use in repairing or replacing comparable parts in another mechanism. The Tellarite ship Tezra was seized by the Klingon Empire. Believing the vessel had been impounded, its owner, Skalaar, turned to bounty hunting in order to pay the impound fee. It was not until his last mission, in 2153, that he learned the Klingons cannibalized the ship several years earlier. Specifically, they stripped "[e]very power relay, every conduit." In 2401, Geordi La Forge revealed that he had spent twenty years restoring the USS Enterprise-D. The Enterprise's secondary hull had been destroyed in 2371, so La Forge cannibalized the Galaxy-class USS Syracuse for a replacement warp drive and nacelles. (Star Trek Generations; PIC: "Võx")
