The captain's log on the USS Protostar was the method used by the commanding officer to record the ship's events. Dal R'El, the ship's self-appointed captain recorded several of these logs after discovering the ship in 2383. Gwyn also recorded one to leave as a message.

Lessons and post-escape update. (PRO: "Dream Catcher")

  • "Captain's log, stardate… I don't know. Janeway thinks we're cadets. She told me to log whatever my crew has been up to, but there's not much to report. Since we almost flew directly into a dying star, Janeway thought it might be nice to teach us some basics on how to pilot a starship. And she taught us the wonders of autopilot. She also trained us how to plot a course to avoid anything that might try to hurt us… like our Diviner who's probably not pleased we took his daughter. The more distance we put between us and Tars Lamora, the better. But big picture, As long as our course is set to avoid any trouble, we shouldn't have any. Right?"

Following the stars. (PRO: "Terror Firma")

  • "Captain's log, supplemental. Even though this planet tried to trip us up, we've almost reached the Protostar by following the stars, which was my brilliant idea with a little assist."

Contact with the Damsel in distress. (PRO: "First Con-tact")

  • "Captain's log, we've been on edge since Gwyn showed us what happened to the last Protostar crew. The mystery surrounding our ship still haunts us… Janeway most of all. We are all frustrated we can't find out more, but, in the meantime, we've discovered a welcome distraction."

Message from Gwyn to Rok. (PRO: "Time Amok")

  • "Hey, Rok, how are ya? I don't have much time, so I'll get right to it. I'm sorry we all pushed you to be security officer. I've been told what to do and who to be my whole life, too. I know you're young. You're capable of so much. I want you to be the best at whatever you want. But, to have that chance, I need for you to pay close attention. I attached files with schematics to build a warp matrix and where to find the right dilithium coupler. I tried to do it, but things got complicated. So it's up to you. I know you can do it. The crew believes in you."

Heading for Starfleet. (PRO: "Asylum")

  • "Captain's log, 61209.5. It's been weeks since leaving Tars Lamora for good. Saving the Unwanted from the Diviner is something we'll always remember. Except Gwyn. After catching a reflection of Zero's true form, her memories are still a blur. Since then, we've been racking up good deeds, hoping Starfleet will look pass the fact that we kinda stole their ship. And who knows? If they're as great as Janeway makes them out to be, maybe they'll accept a bunch of kids who don't know where they're going, which would be good to know, since we're just now approaching the closest Federation comm relay station in hopes they'll take us in. Suddenly, that dream of finding a place where we can all be accepted is actually becoming real. Even I'm starting to believe."

Mysterious distress call. (PRO: "All the World's a Stage")

  • "Captain's log, stardate 61296.9. One minute, we were full of hope to join Starfleet. Then poof... that dream is dead... because our ship has a weapon that'll wipe the Federation off the galactic map. We tried phasers, transporters. We can't get rid of it. It just adapts. Thanks to Zero, we know even opening a hail to Starfleet could infect their systems. Despite this setback, we decided as long as we have the Protostar, we can still help others, which has led us to a mysterious M class planet in need of help."
  • "Captain's log, supplemental. People can surprise you sometimes. It seems we met a new chapter of Starfleet after all. Sure, they got a few things wrong, but they got a few things right. Janeway says the rules about second contact are a bit fuzzy, so it's up to them on how they wanna evolve. If these Enderprizians can do so much without even a ship to call their own, maybe we can too. If we can't take the ship to Starfleet, we'll find another way without the Protostar."

Search for a starport. (PRO: "Masquerade")

  • "Captain's log. Stardate, uh… ah, who cares? We just barely escaped Starfleet by hiding in the Neutral Zone, and we're not escaping anything else until we get our nacelles fixed. But at least we have Okona. As Murf gets used to his new body… we are getting used to the new Murf. But at least we have Okona. You know, for someone who's been on our ship for such a short time, it stings that the crew's taken to him so quickly, but I get it. I mean, look at him. He knows who he is, and what am I? Just some handsome lost kid with questions. But one day I'll find out where I came from, and as for Okona, he'll be the one a million miles away."
