Lieutenant Carlisle was a male Human Starfleet officer who lived during the mid-23rd century. He served in the operations division aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk during the mid-2260s, where he was assigned as one of the ship's security officers.

In 2267, he and another officer responded to Kirk's call to security with the request to have a team of security guards, armed with hand phasers, to stand 24 hour watches on Nomad. Though initially ordered by Kirk to meet him in the auxiliary control room, whereupon it was immediately discovered that Nomad was no longer in the auxiliary control room, causing Kirk to reissued a new order to implement a full security search on all decks.

Shortly thereafter, Carlisle and his partner were vaporized by Nomad after he ordered the Earth probe to stop heading in the wrong direction. (TOS: "The Changeling")

Carlisle was played by actor Arnold Lessing. He was one of several red shirts vaporized in the episode.

An autograph card released by Rittenhouse Archives spells his name as "Carlyle".

According to the comic book Star Trek: Defiant, Issue 9, the four security guards vaporized by Nomad were named Ward, Cordry, Kessler and Real. They were all referred to as ensigns.
