What is a map?[]

I did a preliminary pass of the display graphics category, but we may want to take a closer look at what should be considered a map. - Archduk3 18:49, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

Everything in the category looks alright to me. Were there some specific examples you had in mind? –Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 00:59, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

When I went through I was just tagging images that had been used as a map, which sometimes includes images that are similar to images that have not been used as such. That may not be the best way to define it, though I'm not sure how else one would. Also, we may want to break this category down into smaller ones, since right now there is a rather wide range of images here. - Archduk3 01:14, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

Well, straight off the bat, we could assign maps of space into their own sub-cat ("Star charts"?). There's also a lot of maps of Earth, so I guess we could have "Earth maps", or if we want to include all surface maps, something like "terrestrial maps". Left over are then a few maps/schematics of space vessels and installations, which I'm not sure whether they need their own cat.–Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 01:56, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

We have a few schematics that weren't used as maps, so I was already thinking of suggesting that one, but the others also sound like a good idea. - Archduk3 02:00, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

MA images (maps) subcats[]

From Memory Alpha:Category suggestions

Three subcategories to be under maps, mostly: Star charts, Terrestrial maps, and Schematics. Schematics would also be under display graphics, since not all schematics are maps. - Archduk3 17:59, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

Also, planetary systems. Way more of those than I remembered. - Archduk3 01:59, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
