Lowercase?[]

I personally hate superfluous uppercasing, but in this case (ha!), I'm not sure about moving all nebulae to lowercase. Aren't almost all of these proper names? -- Harry 16:08, 9 Jan 2005 (CET)

I thought that the names of star systems and sectors were proper names too, but apparently not. In any case, is there a consensus on this? -- EtaPiscium 19:24, 9 Jan 2005 (CET)

Regarding the note I added to this list, about a week ago I asked whether we should use "Nebula" or "nebula" on Talk:List of astronomical objects. Only Mike answered, and agreed with me that a lower-case title would be the better choice. This has been an implicit policy for quite a while, probably starting with me creating the article "Sol System" instead of "Sol system" about a year ago (see: Memory Alpha talk:Naming conventions). EtaPiscium is absolutely correct, though - why is "X Nebula" a proper name while "Y system" is not? I actually think that this question can't be answered easily - there might be system/nebula/expanse/cluster/whatever designations that are proper names and others that aren't. Does anyone know how to decide which of all these titles are "proper names"? Should we even try to decide, or should we just use either lower- or upper-case for all titles? It's definitely not an easy question. I don't like capitals, but somehow with these nebulas I started doubting. Perhaps it is good to have just one rule, and in that case, I'd definitely go for the lowercase names. I think we need to update Naming Conventions. -- Harry 16:48, 10 Jan 2005 (CET)
