A chant was the rhythmic speaking or singing of words or sounds. The Bajoran death chant was a specific example.

In 2152, a group of Takret hiding on Enterprise NX-01 annoyed Charles Tucker by their all-night rituals including chanting and walking in circles. (ENT: "The Catwalk")

In 2155, Terra Prime-inspired protesters chanted outside the Andorian embassy on Earth. (ENT: "Terra Prime")

In 2268, the children of the Starnes Exploration Party used a chant to summon Gorgan. (TOS: "And the Children Shall Lead")

According to Sito Jaxa in 2370, the vedeks of the Janalan order maintained a continuous chant for the well-being of the Bajorans. (TNG: "Lower Decks")

According to Kor in 2372, Koloth had fought in the final battle against T'nag's army by chanting a Klingon battlecry while attacking their flank. (DS9: "The Sword of Kahless")

The Cult of the Pah-wraiths chanted: ba'ja kor'ek, no'la ba'lani, pah'nom ko'se plusso ma'kora. Ba'ja kor'ek, no'la ba'lani, pah'nom ko'se plusso ma'kora in a religious ceremony. (DS9: "Covenant")


In 2376, Neelix played the chants of the monks of Temple of T'Panit for an unconscious Tuvok, for whom those chants were a favorite. (VOY: "Riddles")
