The Chicago Cubs were a professional baseball team from Chicago, Illinois on Earth that was formed during the fledgling years of the sport.
During his first encounter with the Prophets in 2369, Benjamin Sisko interacted with several of these aliens, who were portraying Cubs players, participating in an early 20th century baseball game. (DS9: "Emissary")
According to the revised final draft of the "Emissary" script (dated 10 August 1992), the Cubs uniforms the Prophets were wearing were from the early 1920s, while Sisko's hat was from circa 1923. [1] Originally, as evidenced by the first draft script of "Emissary" (dated 12 June 1992), the batter was to have been Ty Cobb, the team was not identified, but Sisko's hat was intended to be a Boston Red Sox cap from circa 1915. Later in the development of the episode (on 30 July 1992), Joan Pearce Research Associates suggested the team be the Detroit Tigers. (The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, pp. 135 & 136)
The Cubs were mentioned by Charles Tucker III in the final draft script of the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Carpenter Street". Tucker also noted that the name "Cubs" matched that of Chicago's football team, the Bears.
