A chimerium crystal
Chimerium was a luminescent orange crystalline mineral. It was valued in a region of the Delta Quadrant, with a single large crystal sufficient to purchase a small starship. It could also be used to create a chimerium cloak.
Tars Lamora was rich in chimerium, particularly in the deep core. It was mined by slave labor at a prison colony ruled by the Diviner, who used it to pay the Kazon who brought him more slaves. After losing the USS Protostar in 2383, he ordered chimerium extraction at the colony redoubled as he would need every speck to finance its retrieval. (PRO: "Lost and Found", "Starstruck")
Klingon cloaking devices required chimerium to function. (PRO: "First Con-tact")
Chimerium first appeared in the Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers novel Invincible by David Mack and Keith R.A. DeCandido and was subsequently featured in the Star Trek: A Time to... series. Mack serves as story consultant on Star Trek: Prodigy. [1]
