Christopher Brynner was a wealthy Human businessman and the owner of a company called Brynner Information Systems in San Francisco on Earth in the early 21st century, operating on Channel 90 of the Net. He had once gone skiing on Mount Cook, and while at high school in the 1990s received a Māori tattoo that he later removed.
On January 21, 2024, Brynner was the subject of a Los Angeles Times article about the potential unionization of his company, to which he was opposed. On April 12th of that same year, Q was reading this issue at Jackson Roykirk Plaza. (PIC: "Watcher")
On August 30, 2024, Brynner met a woman named Jadzia Dax, who, unbeknownst to him, was a Trill from the year 2371. He offered to assist her in finding her friends, Benjamin Sisko and Julian Bashir, also from the future. He learned that they were being held in the city's Sanctuary District, where the homeless and mentally-ill were interned; unknown to the general public, however, their internment was nothing short of imprisonment.
After locating her friends, Jadzia was able to convince Brynner to restore computer access at the District's processing center, allowing many of its residents to reveal their plight to the outside world. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I", "Past Tense, Part II")
Brynner was played by Jim Metzler. His first name was derived from Yul Brynner's character of Chris in The Magnificent Seven. His surname is a homage to Yul Brynner himself. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 197)
He was only called Chris Brynner onscreen. His full name Christopher Brynner comes from the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 108.
According to the short story "The Immortality Blues" by Marc Carlson, contained in Strange New Worlds 9, Brynner was a lieutenant in the United States Army in the early 2000s and fought in the Iraq War. He lived to see First Contact in 2063. Brynner also appears in The Sundered.
