It was used by B'Elanna Torres on stardate 48623.5 to categorize the Vhnori decaying bodies found on an asteroid around a class D planet. Starfleet also had standard postmortem resuscitation techniques for class 5 humanoids, as stated by The Doctor while reviving Ptera, a member of this species, in sickbay aboard USS Voyager.
