Component Game Systems, Inc. was an American gaming company based in New Windsor, Maryland and named after its core gaming system. Its original name of Companion Games was changed after it modified its unpublished "Galactic Empires" game for use with material from other properties.
The Component Game System was expandable and allowed play with every player that had a game set. The modular nature of the game's format allowed for different game play every time the game was played.
It was sold in many licensed versions, both in individual race sets and in core sets of several races. The company had licenses to produce Babylon 5, Hercules & Xena, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek-based games, all of which could conceivably be played with each other.
Star Trek releases[]
Its Star Trek-based games included:
Both games were Core Sets and included four groups of alien races/ships. Additional expansions for both games were planned for release in early 1999 but the company disappeared shortly after the Core Sets were released.
Planned expansions included:
- Starter Kits for the Federation (both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine versions), Klingon, Romulan, Ferengi, Cardassian, Dominion, Maquis, and Borg factions. The Borg Starter was slated to be 50% larger than the others as it was the only "empire" not included in either Core Set.
- Two Encounter Decks (with additional cards to add to the games)
