Coppelius androids were a series of androids created via fractal neuronic cloning.
A half-century after Doctor Noonien Soong created his androids, his son Altan Soong worked together with Bruce Maddox in seclusion on Coppelius to create more androids. Using a single positronic neuron from Data, which Maddox smuggled out of the Daystrom Institute, he and Altan Inigo Soong were able to make a number of these androids. Some of these androids resembled Data, with golden skin and yellow eyes, while others were more Human in appearance. A consequence of the fractal neuronic cloning process was that the Coppelius androids were created in identical pairs. (PIC: "Remembrance", "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1", "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2")
While Coppelius androids apparently understood emotions, could "feel" them and reacted accordingly, unlike a fully-realized Soong-type android there wasn't anything psychically present that could be empathically read from them. (PIC: "Nepenthe") They were, however, able to study and learn how to perform the Vulcan mind meld, a form of touch telepathy. (PIC: "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1")
