Aunts and uncles[]

"I know who you are."
"Then, you have the advantage."
"You're my nephew, Jean-Luc. From the starship
Enterprise."
"Then you must be my uncle Rene."
"I'm not your uncle. It's the other way around."
"Too bad. I rather enjoyed the idea.
"

An aunt (sometimes called "auntie") was the sister of a parent or the wife of a parent's brother, while an uncle was the brother of a parent or the husband of a parent's sister. (VOY: "Remember", "Fair Haven", et al.)

The terms could also be terms of endearment for one who helped, mentored, or encouraged someone. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars", "His Way"; VOY: "The Q and the Grey", "Q2")

Vice Admiral J.P. Hanson commented to Captain Jean-Luc Picard of Lieutenant Commander Elizabeth Shelby's drive after joining Starfleet Tactical as being the reason for "every admiral's uncle [having] a take on this Borg business." (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds")

When Dobara, the wife of Nikolai Rozhenko, chatted with Worf, she begged him to make amends with his brother, because, she wanted Worf to consider himself her brother as well, because he was "going to be the uncle of my child." (TNG: "Homeward")

The same relationship of two people, as separated by a generation, was referred to as a great aunt (the sister or the brother's wife of a grandparent) or great uncle (the brother or the sister's wife of a grandparent). (ENT: "Horizon", "Minefield")

Travis Mayweather once noted that "On a cargo ship, you can't walk ten meters without running into your babysitter or a great aunt." (ENT: "Horizon")

Cousins[]

Cousins were two offspring who shared a common grandparent, where one cousin's parent was a sibling to the other cousin's parent. (VOY: "11:59", et al.)

Jean-Luc Picard referenced several notable members of the Picard family, including his great-great-cousin Renée Picard. (PIC: "The Star Gazer")

The term "great-great-cousin" is not a commonly recognized genealogy term, and presumably refers to either his great-great-uncle's son, or possibly his great-great-grandfather's first cousin.

Nieces and nephews[]

A niece was the daughter of one's sibling, while a nephew was the son of one's sibling. (VOY: "Parturition", et al.)
