The Curiosity class was a Federation heavy cruiser operated by Starfleet during the late 24th century.
History[]
Ships in class were in service prior to the 2390s. During 2390, the USS Ibn Majid ran afoul of then Commodore Oh, who unbeknownst to Starfleet, was a Romulan mole. Using her authority, she directed the ship's captain, Alonzo Vandermeer, to kill two Coppelius androids, and then commit suicide or else she would target and destroy the ship with all hands. Vandermeer subsequently carried out the order, however, the ship was still struck from record and the incident classified. (PIC: "Broken Pieces", "The End is the Beginning")
The Curiosity-class did not seem to experience a long service record, and appeared to be out of service by 2401. (PIC: "The Next Generation", "The Last Generation")
Technical data[]
Curiosity-class ships featured the saucer section / engineering section / warp nacelle layout common to most Starfleet vessels of the 24th Century, and shared a similar outline to that of the Sovereign-class, and Jein-class lines.

Background information[]
According to Michael Chabon, on his Instagram account, the Ibn Majid was a Curiosity-class cruiser. He further noted there are other ships in the class, "named for great navigators and naval explorers, particularly those whose accomplishments were long overlooked or overshadowed due to cultural and historical bias." The silhouette of the ship seen on Rios' storage case was provided by John Eaves, and shows a very similar design to his previously designed USS Emmett Till, shown on the 2019 documentary What We Left Behind.
