History
In 2399, multiple ships of this class were in a fleet led by the USS Zheng He to the planet Coppelius where they acted as protectors of the synthetic lifeforms living there. (PIC: "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2")

Background information
According to Michael Chabon, on his Instagram account, the ibn Majid was a Curiosity-class cruiser. He further notes there are other ships in class "named for great navigators and naval explorers, particularly those whose accomplishments were long overlooked or overshadowed due to cultural and historical bias." [1]
