(written from a Production point of view)

Daniel Hugh Kelly (born 10 August 1952; age 71) is an actor from Elizabeth, New Jersey, who appeared in Star Trek: Insurrection as Sojef.

Outside of Star Trek, Kelly has appeared in The West Wing, Law & Order, and many films over the past two decades. He is also a producer, writer and director of a handful of TV series. He is perhaps best known for his television role as Mark "Skid" McCormick in the 1980s series Hardcastle and McCormick, which co-starred Brian Keith as Hardcastle. In 1993, he starred in The Good Son alongside Jacqueline Brookes. As an interesting coincidence, Daniel played Frank Ryan in the soap opera Ryan's Hope, a role he took over from Andrew Robinson who played Elim Garak in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Also in Ryan's Hope were Kate Mulgrew and Catherine Hicks. He also performed inFrom the Earth to the Moon as Astronaut Gene Cernan (LMP of Apollo 10 and CDR of Apollo 17), alongside many other Trek actors, such as Sam Anderson, David Andrews, Dan Butler, David Clennon, Ronny Cox, Brett Cullen, Ann Cusack, J. Downing, David Drew Gallagher, Jerry Hardin, Clint Howard, Stephen Root, John Carroll Lynch, Dakin Matthews, Kieran Mulroney, Conor O'Farrell, Holmes R. Osborne, Harve Presnell, Mark Rolston, Alan Ruck, and Winona Ryder.
