Captain Darson was a Starfleet officer in the 24th century.
Darson was the commanding officer of the starship USS Adelphi when that ship made first contact at Ghorusda. Forty-seven crewpeople, including the captain, died there in what came to be known at the Ghorusda Disaster. A board of inquiry officially found Darson responsible for carelessness about Ghorusdan cultural taboos, though many Starfleet personnel, (including William T. Riker, who lost two academy classmates in the incident) blamed Betazoid contact specialist Tam Elbrun for failing to warn Darson of the severity of Ghorusdan hostility.
Elbrun, for his part, later argued that Darson had failed to heed his warning, though he later privately conceded that he may have been overly caught up in the Ghorusdan point of view and therefore may not have warned Darson as forcefully as he could have. (TNG: "Tin Man")
This character was only mentioned in dialogue.
