David R. Howe is a technical lighting director at Industrial Light & Magic who worked on 2009's Star Trek. [1] He previously worked with ILM as a digital effects artist on Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones in 2002.

Howe began his professional visual effects career with Northwest Imaging & FX in the late 1990s, working on Stargate SG-1, Poltergeist: The Legacy, and The Outer Limits. His early film credits include Spawn (1997; featuring Melinda Clarke) and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001; featuring the voices of Jean Simmons and Dwight Schultz).

Howe also worked on The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), as an employee of Weta Digital. Both of these films featuring John Rhys-Davies and Karl Urban (Brad Dourif was in The Two Towers but only appears in the extended cut of Return of the King).

Howe spent four years as a technical director at Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI). Among the films he worked on during his time at SPI were Spider-Man 2 (2004, starring Kirsten Dunst), The Aviator (2004, written by John Logan and featuring Brent Spiner), I Am Legend (2007, featuring Gabrielle Union) and Hancock (2008).
