David Renan is the actor who portrayed a conn ensign in the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "The Naked Now".

His first work on screen was in the 1986 drama The Education of Allison Tate which also featured Barbara Bosson, Leslie Hope, Karl Wiedergott, and Gary Werntz. In 1989 he portrayed the regular character of Sequoya Ridge in the drama series A Peaceable Kingdom.

Other television appearances include a 1987 episode of Hill Street Blues entitled "The Runner Falls on His Kisser". Fellow Star Trek alumni Lawrence Tierney and Christopher Darga were also guest stars in this episode, while James B. Sikking starred. Renan appeared in the Freddy's Nightmares episode "The Art of Death" (1989, with Carey Scott and Leland Crooke).

He also appeared in the made-for-TV movies Higher Ground (1988, with John Rhys-Davies) and K-9000 (1991, with Judson Scott, Anne Haney, Ted Barba, James H. Burk, Kenny Endoso, Jeff Imada, Dave Perna and Nicholas Shaffer and stunts by Gregory J. Barnett and Lane Leavitt).
