The Deleb were a humanoid species native to the planet Persephone III. They were carbon-based lifeforms with a biological composition of 63% water. They had reptilian features, with purple scaled skin, prominent cranial ridges, and yellow eyes.
As of 2259, Federation surveys indicated the Deleb to be a pre-industrial society with a population of several million. That year, the species was threatened with extinction by the comet C/2260-Quentin. The USS Enterprise was able to divert the comet to a safe trajectory; as it passed by the planet, a large amount of water vapor from its surface entered the atmosphere and permanently increased rainfall levels. Lieutenant Spock speculated that a reduction in the planet's aridity would promote agricultural, and consequently societal, development among the Deleb. (SNW: "Children of the Comet")
