The Denorios belt was a charged plasma field located in the Bajoran system. This belt divided the system into an inner system and an outer system. It was located between Bajor IX and Bajor X and was approximately 160 million kilometers from Bajor. (DS9: "Emissary", "Past Prologue", "If Wishes Were Horses"; set decoration)
Prior to 2369, spacecraft generally avoided the Denorios Belt unless they had to go there. In the ten thousand years prior to 2369, twenty-three navigational reports reported unusually severe neutrino disturbances in the belt, all from the same location. Also, at least five of the Bajoran orbs were found here. (DS9: "Emissary")
Ancient Bajorans travelling to Cardassia Prime in lightships had to cross the Denorios belt, considered the most difficult part of their journey. During those journeys, their ships could encounter tachyon eddies, taking them past the belt at faster-than-light speed. In 2371, Benjamin Sisko and Jake Sisko repeated such a journey in a replica lightship. (DS9: "Explorers")
The Bajoran poet Akorem Laan disappeared in the belt in 2172 following an ion storm. After a brief stint in the future, he returned to his time and with no direct memory of his journey through time or encountering the Celestial Temple. Also in the 22nd century, a ship carrying Kai Taluno was disabled for several days in the belt. Following his rescue, Taluno claimed that the "heavens had opened up" and nearly consumed his vessel. (DS9: "Emissary", "Accession")
Odo was found in the Denorios Belt in the 24th century. (DS9: "Emissary")
The script for "Emissary" stated that in 2337, a vessel of unknown origin was discovered there, carrying a member of a previously unencountered species. This might have referred to Odo's discovery. [1]
All of these incidents were explained in 2369, when, inside the belt, the first stable wormhole known to exist was discovered by Commander Benjamin Sisko and Lieutenant Jadzia Dax. Shortly thereafter, the space station Deep Space 9 was moved from Bajor's orbit to a position in the belt, some twenty thousand kilometers from the newly-discovered aperture of the wormhole. (DS9: "Emissary")
Later that year, elevated thoron emissions in the belt were speculated to be the result of the presence of so many warp and impulse engines. (DS9: "If Wishes Were Horses")
In 2370, a plasma storm affected the Denorios belt and Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Invasive Procedures")
In late 2374, Jadzia Dax ran a spectral scan on a comet that was passing through the belt. She had waited three weeks for it to enter the belt. (DS9: "Time's Orphan")
As depicted in the first draft script of "Emissary", the Denorios belt was an asteroid belt rather than a charged plasma field. In one of the navigational reports seen in the episode "Emissary", there was a reference to the Denorios asteroid belt. It nonetheless was said to pose a "navigational hazard."
