Background information[]
- This novel takes place during the second season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
- This is the first Star Trek novel written by Greg Cox, and the first by John Gregory Betancourt. It is the only collaboration between the pair.
- Cox and Betancourt divided the story between them: Betancourt handling the away team storyline, with Cox writing the station-based plot. The two then worked together on the concluding chapters. (Voyages of Imagination, pp. 236-237)
