(written from a Production point of view)
Richard "Dick" Cherney (6 November 1914 – 21 October 2017; age 102) was a former background actor who, from approximately 1936 to 1976, made over 250 uncredited film and television appearances, including two uncredited appearances during Season One of Star Trek. His first appearance was as a Council Member in "A Taste of Armageddon", and his second, as a Passerby in the episode "The City on the Edge of Forever".
From December 2016 until his death, Cherney was the oldest living known actor to have appeared in the Star Trek franchise, following the death of fellow TOS background actor Shep Houghton. He is only the fifth Star Trek performer to reach the age of 100, following Viola Stimpson, Ellen Albertini Dow, Olaf Pooley, and Houghton. With his death, Norman Lloyd, who was two days his junior, became the oldest living Star Trek performer.
