A drill bit was a type of cutting tool used by a drilling rig to drill materials and substances, as well as core samples, from a planet.
In 2151, a drill bit of the portable drilling rig from aboard Enterprise NX-01 broke when it hit a layer of magnesite on Archer's Comet. It was replaced and the drilling team could salvage a core sample rich of eisillium. (ENT: "Breaking the Ice")
The same year, Captain Jonathan Archer found the reason for the health-taking occurrence of tetracyanate 622 on the homeworld of the Akaali – with tetracyanate 622 saturated drill bits used by the Malurians in their secret drilling of the planet. (ENT: "Civilization")
