The drum was an ancient instrument found on many planets, including Earth. Drums could be played by hand or with special drumsticks.

On 19th century Earth, military officers would upend a drum on the battlefield, sit at it and dispense summary justice in so-called drumhead trials. Those facing those trials often were sentenced to death. (TNG: "The Drumhead")

Doctor Phlox owned an Aldebaran drum set, which some point before 2154 he lent to his first wife's third husband, Groznik. In the event of Phlox's' death, he wanted Groznik to keep the drums. (ENT: "Zero Hour")

The Platonians also had drums, presumably copied from those used in Ancient Greece. Alexander in particular played the drum. (TOS: "Plato's Stepchildren")

One of the aliens encountered by the crew of the Enterprise-D in 2364 was playing a drum. (TNG: "Hide And Q")

A drum set was among the instruments present during a Ten Forward jazz concert aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2369. (TNG: "Second Chances")

In 2369, drum was a word which appeared on a medical analysis, seen by Doctor Julian Bashir who was infected by the aphasia virus. (DS9: "Babel")

Jadzia Dax and Manuele Atoa played Samoan drums during Jadzia's bachelorette party in 2374. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

During William T. Riker and Deanna Troi's wedding in 2379 a musician played a futuristic drum set with yellow-green, transparent cymbals. (Star Trek Nemesis)

These cymbals are believed to be Pintech Visu-lite electronic cymbals.

Tom Paris claimed on one occasion that he always had wanted to learn to play the drums. (VOY: "The Thaw")

In 2381, when an away team from the USS Cerritos came to the late Kerner Hauze's ship, there was a drum set among his massive collection. (LD: "Kayshon, His Eyes Open")

According to an account that was anything but canon, Montgomery Scott played the drums in a Post Mainframe Acid-Cardassian Ten Forwardcore band that was put together by William T. Riker and Hikaru Sulu. (VST: "Walk, Don't Run")
