The Echelon class was a type of Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the early 25th century. The class closely resembled the Sagan-class, only without the lower pair of warp nacelles. They were classified as mid-model starships with a traceable payload, meaning that the impact of their weapons fire left residual ionic energy that could be used to track their target. (PIC: "The Bounty")

In 2401, thirteen ships of this class were involved in fleet maneuvers to celebrate 250 years since Enterprise NX-01 took her first voyage. They were commandeered after officers under the age of 25 were placed under the influence of the Borg with the help of Jack Crusher. (PIC: "Võx", "The Last Generation")

This class was designed by John Eaves, Doug Drexler, and Terry Matalas. [1]
According to production material, this class of ship is 1694 feet (516.3 meters) in length. [2]
The total number of Echelon-class vessels present at Frontier Day was established by Picard Research Assistant Jörg Hillebrand. [3]
