Emergency stations was a shipboard operating condition that was used in the 23rd and 24th centuries. When emergency stations were called, usually by the commanding officer, the ship was in an emergency and the crew were called to stations where they could resolve the situation quickly.
In 2265, by the time Captain James T. Kirk called for emergency stations, the USS Enterprise was being damaged by the galactic barrier. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
In 2367, when a Cardassian vessel fired on the USS Enterprise-D, an automated message sounded declaring red alert and ordering crew to take emergency stations. (TNG: "The Wounded")
