In Cardassian literature, enigma tales were a genre of mystery novels. Shoggoth was a noted author of enigma tales.
Elim Garak was fond of enigma tales, but Julian Bashir was not. Bashir observed that the stories always ended the same way – all of the suspects were always guilty. Garak, however, pointed out that the trick was always figuring out exactly who was guilty of what. (DS9: "Distant Voices")
