Epsilon Canaris was an inhabited planetary system which was located somewhere in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. This system contained at least three planets, including Epsilon Canaris III, and was near the Gamma Canaris region. (TOS: "Metamorphosis"; TNG: "Redemption II")
Stellar cartography[]
In 2368, the location of Epsilon Canaris was labeled on a tachyon detection grid on one of the viewscreens of the USS Enterprise-D bridge. (TNG: "Redemption II", okudagram graphic remastered)
In 2371, the location of Epsilon Canaris was labeled on the star chart Data and Picard were studying in stellar cartography on the Enterprise. (Star Trek Generations, okudagram)
Based on the structure of their name, both Epsilon Canaris and Gamma Canaris were stars in the same constellation.
In the Bayer designation, which was a system of stellar classification, the Greek letter indicated the brightness of a star in a constellation. In this case, Epsilon Canaris would be the 5th brightest star in its constellation.
