The equator is the intersecting line that runs perpendicular to a planet's axis. It is an imaginary line that divides a planet into a northern hemisphere and a southern hemisphere. The land within such a region usually has warm weather with tropical atmospheres.

On July 2nd 1937, trying to fly around the world, Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, took off from New Guinea abord an airplane, and they were headed east around the equator, But they vanished somewhere in the South Seas. (VOY: "The 37's")
