The esophagus or gullet was part of the digestive system of many lifeforms, including most humanoids. The opening to the esophagus was referred to as the esophageal aperture.

In 2257, Sylvia Tilly claimed to have a very narrow esophagus. (DIS: "Will You Take My Hand?")

In 2369, Croden graphically recalled slitting the throats of Rakhari security officers, and being surprised when the sounds they made resembled slaughtered fowl as his slaughter knife "crossed their gullets." (DS9: "Vortex")

When Lwaxana Troi was attracted to Odo later that year, he attempted to lose her interest by telling her that he couldn't eat as he did not have an esophagus. (DS9: "The Forsaken")

In 2370, Worf threatened to rip out Byleth's esophagus with his bare hands, after the ambassador had made a number of abrupt demands of him. (TNG: "Liaisons")

In 2374, Dejaren described his contempt of organic beings' eating practices as, "Secreting saliva to force food down your esophagus into a pit of digestive acids." (VOY: "Revulsion")

In a near-death hallucination experienced by B'Elanna Torres in 2376, Neelix told Tom Paris in Klingonese to eat some gagh or he'd force it down the gullet of Paris' corpse. (VOY: "Barge of the Dead")

In 2377, when The Doctor's program had been downloaded into Seven of Nine's cybernetic matrix, he relished the sensation of food sliding down Seven's esophagus, even though he was only eating prison rations. (VOY: "Body and Soul")
