Orion sailships entering the Excellon Nebula
The Excellon Nebula was an interstellar cloud located in Orion territory.
Since ancient times, the Orion Syndicate settled disputes by racing solar sail ships through the Excellon Nebula. The objective of such races was to traverse a dangerous asteroid field inside the nebula, retrieve a hidden treasure, and return to the starting line.
In 2382, Pirate Queen Sabor ordered House Tendi and House Azure to resolve their war via a race through the Excellon Nebula. Due to an argument between D'Erika and D'Vana Tendi, the Azure sailship retrieved the treasure first. The Tendi sailship managed to catch up to them by harnessing a passing comet, whereupon D'Vana destroyed the treasure so that the race would end in a tie. However, Sabor was incensed by this outcome and declared both Houses to have lost the race. (LD: "Shades of Green")
