The Ferengi government was the government for the Ferengi Alliance, led by the Grand Nagus, under the direction of the Rules of Acquisition.

They had the authority to strip a DaiMon of command. (TNG: "Bloodlines")

In 2369, the government had publicly expressed its doubts about the effectiveness of the metaphasic shield, which had been invented by the Ferengi citizen Doctor Reyga, in protecting a ship within a star's corona. Later that year, after Doctor Beverly Crusher performed an autopsy on Reyga, against the wishes of his family, Captain Jean-Luc Picard expressed his concerns about the possible significant repercussions that may be had if the Ferengi government were to get involved when it learned that the burial rituals of one of its citizens had been violated. (TNG: "Suspicions")

In 2370, after the USS Enterprise-D encountered a disabled D'Kora-class transport ship in the Hekaras Corridor, the ship's commander, DaiMon Prak, who believed the Federation was at fault for his ship being disabled, warned: "When the Ferengi Council learns of your actions, they will consider this an act of war." After Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard attempted to resolve the misunderstanding with Prak, who felt he had no reason to trust a Human, was initially declined, but quickly changed, after Picard prepared to leave, offering to "relay your position to your government, if you wish, in case you're unable to complete your repairs and you remain stranded." (TNG: "Force of Nature")

Later that year, after Bok contacted the Enterprise-D, the Captain Picard requested information about Bok from the government. However, a response to the request was delayed as the government was debating an amendment to the Rules of Acquisition. The Enterprise was later contacted by DaiMon Birta on the government's behalf. After Quark had his license revoked in 2372, his mother, Ishka, the following year, took it upon herself to ask Grand Nagus Zek to reinstate it, and for her efforts, he accused her of "plotting to overthrow the government", before ending their relationship. (DS9: "Ferengi Love Songs")

The following year, after Brunt was named the acting grand nagus, Zek, who has renewed his relationship with Ishka, arrived at Deep Space 9, three days before it became official, entered Quark's quarters, and where he then proclaimed: "As of this moment, I declare this site to be the headquarters of the sole legitimate government of Ferenginar." Thereafter he and Ishka unhatched their plan for Zek to be reinstated by the Ferengi Commerce Authority. (DS9: "Profit and Lace")
