Maquis ships 1 []

Maquis attack the Vetar

Attacking the Vetar

Several of these Maquis ships were appropriated for use, in part, with their insurrection against the Cardassian Union. These ships in particular were among those that were armed with photon torpedoes and Type 8 phasers.

One of these engagements was an attack on the Vetar, a Cardassian Galor-class ship, near the Demilitarized Zone in late 2370. The Vetar, which had sent out a distress signal, had sustained heavy damage before it was assisted by the USS Enterprise.

Magnified for identification

While attempted to identify the small attacking vessels, they were found to not be transmitting identification codes, but with sensor scans were able to identify them as Federation ships through their warp signatures, and upon visual identification, the Maquis, proper. Captain Jean-Luc Picard broadcast a warning to the ships, to "call off your attack or we will be forced to engage you." The Maquis ignored the message and began regrouping to further their attack on the Vetar, and forcing the Enterprise to arm phasers and photon torpedoes. Commander William T. Riker expressed disbelief that "I never thought we'd be firing on our own people to protect a Cardassian ship…" These attacking ships were, however, quickly driven off when the Enterprise detonated a torpedo spread between the two sides, causing them to disperse.

These vessels in general were identified in the script simply as "smaller MAQUIS SHIP" and, when one of the fighters was magnified, the script notes that "it does not have Starfleet markings, or markings of any kind.

Maquis ships 2 []

Assembled to raid Yridian convoy

Three of these Maquis ships, including Santos' ship, were among those appropriated for use, in part, with their insurrection against the Cardassian Union.

Over a week, after the attack on the Vetar, another squadron, this time consisting of ten ships, including these attack fighters, were committed to attacking a Yridian convoy that was traveling along the DMZ. The squadron was promptly dispersed before crossing into Federation space after it was revealed to be a trap. (TNG: "Preemptive Strike")

Second Fleet []

Several attack fighters were among the remnants of the Second Fleet, which had retreated from the Dominion, six months after the outbreak of the Dominion War. (DS9: "A Time to Stand")

Operation Return []

Ships flying in formation

These attack fighters were part of the combined Second, Fifth, and Ninth Fleets that converged at Starbase 375 in mid-2374 to help participate in Operation Return. (DS9: "Favor the Bold")

Upon the arrival at the battlezone, they were placed at the head of the fleet as the Federation faced off against the Dominion fleet.

Captain Benjamin Sisko's strategy was ordering the attack fighters to assume tactical pattern Theta, ording them to "[c]oncentrate your fire on the Cardassian ships, then split off into squadrons and run like hell." The idea was, as explained by Elim Garak, was that Sisko was hoping to get the Cardassians "to break formation and go after the Federation fighters. He knows the Jem'Hadar will stand their ground, but the Cardassians just might get angry enough to take the bait."

The engagement began when the attack fighters crossed the line at full impulse, firing at will.

According to the script notes, the following transpired, "The first wave of Federation attack-fighters lets loose a barrage of quantum torpedoes at the center of the Dominion lines. Some of the fighters are hit and destroyed, the rest follow Sisko's plan and break formation, splitting off in all four directions."

A second wave was sent in quickly behind the first wave, protected by Destroyer Units 2 and 6, with the third and forth wave on "hot-standby".

Some time later, and by the ninth wave, a half-dozen Cardassian squadrons broke formation to go after the fighters; which initially began when two squadrons of Cardassian attack ships broke off first to go after the fighters.

The script describes these actions as "the last wave of attack-fighters unload their quantum torpedoes at Dominion lines, then speed away, again under heavy fire. This time, some of the Hideki-class Dominion fighters break ranks and pursue the Federation fighters."

As the Federation fleet attempted to break through, Sisko became concerned that a number of ships were falling out of position, he attempted to have 6th, 7th, and 8th fighter squadron regroup, but was unable to get the message out, as the Dominion was jamming their signal with a rotating E-M pulse. (DS9: "Sacrifice of Angels")

Second Battle of Chin'toka []

These fighters participated in the second Battle of Chin'toka where they were destroyed by the Breen.

According to radio chatter, prior to the battle, "Federation Fighter Squadrons 7 and 10 break into sections and stand by to begin reconnaissance." (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil")

These attack fighters were only mentioned in dialogue.

Battle of Cardassia []

In 2375, these numerous attack fighters departed Deep Space 9 for the Invasion of Cardassia.

Just before the Cardassians turned against the Dominion, the USS Defiant was under heavy from both the Jem'Hadar and Breen. After Captain Benjamin Sisko had Ezri Dax request some needed "support from our attack fighters," she replied, "Sir, most of our fighters are either destroyed or under attack themselves." Prompting the Defiant to attempt a retreat before being assisted by a Galor-class warship. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind")

Starfleet Security ships []

These two attack fighters were used by Starfleet Security to intercept the USS Cerritos following an unauthorized launch by Beckett Mariner in 2381. (LD: "Grounded")
