Batai, a native of the community of Ressik, was the son of Kamin and Eline and the younger brother of Meribor.
Batai and his family lived on the planet Kataan in the 14th century. He was named for his father's friend Batai, who died before the younger Batai's birth.
For several years, he could not decide upon a career. Though he showed interest in mathematics and botany, he finally decided to leave school and become a musician. (TNG: "The Inner Light")
Batai was played by Patrick Stewart's real-life son Daniel Stewart.
