A fireman's pole was a metal rod used by firefighters and others to descend from one level of a facility to another quickly.
Prior to repairs performed by the crew of the visiting USS Cerritos in 2382, Starbase 80 engineers had to use a fireman's pole to safely access areas of the base, due to malfunctioning gravity plating. (LD: "Starbase 80?!")
