A flower was the main reproductive part of a plant, which was typically colored (not green) and known for producing fruit and supported by a stem. A flower on a tree or bush was known as a blossom.

The flowers of some plants could contain projectile thorns. Flowers of this type included those of the pod plants of Gamma Trianguli VI, and a plant once kept in Lab 4005 aboard the USS Cerritos. (TOS: "The Apple", LD: "The Spy Humongous")

In the first draft script of DS9: "When It Rains...", Damar's father was referred to as having been tending to his flowers when a Bajoran Resistance bomb had exploded, killing him. After Damar told her this, Kira Nerys countered, "His flowers were planted on land that didn't belong to him."
