Captain Gabriel Lorca was a male Human Starfleet officer who lived during the mid-23rd century. He served as the commanding officer on board at least one Federation starship, the USS Buran. (DIS: "Context Is for Kings", "Choose Your Pain")

Starfleet career

At some point prior to 2256, Lorca was assigned as the captain of the Buran. In 2256, during a battle in the Federation-Klingon War, the Buran was destroyed with the loss of all hands, seemingly leaving Lorca the only survivor. Lorca claimed he destroyed the ship, rather than have his crew fall into enemy hands. Starfleet and his peers looked down on this, causing damage to his reputation. (DIS: "Choose Your Pain")

Unknown to any one at this time, Lorca was replaced by his mirror universe counterpart, who assumed the identity of his prime counterpart. Despite the loss of the Buran, and given mirror Lorca's manipulative ways, he was given command of the USS Discovery, leaving prime Lorca's whereabouts unknown. (DIS: "Vaulting Ambition")
