The Gamma Trianguli system was an inhabited planetary system in the Gamma Trianguli sector, Alpha Quadrant.

This was the home system of the Vaalians. (TOS: "The Apple"; SNW: "Strange New Worlds"; ENT: "In A Mirror, Darkly, Part II", display graphic)

Components[]

Stellar system[]

It was a single star system. The primary Gamma Trianguli was an A-type dwarf.

Planetary system[]

In this system, there were at least six planets, including Gamma Trianguli IV and Gamma Trianguli VI, which was the homeworld of the Vaalians. The latter planet was in the habitable zone of this system. (TOS: "The Apple"; TNG: "The Chase"; SNW: "Strange New Worlds")

History[]

In 2259, it was listed among several in the region surrounding the Kiley system as being home to a warp-capable civilization. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds")

Stellar cartography[]

The Gamma Trianguli system was visible from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. This system was approximately 112 light years from Sol.

In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. Initially, the symbol had a white color, indicating its status as a neutral system, before having an orange color. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Children of the Comet")

In 2293, the location of Gamma Trianguli in the Milky Way Galaxy was labeled in a star chart that was in Captain James T. Kirk's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, okudagram)

On stardate 1292.4, the location of this system was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. This system's symbol had a yellow color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Cardassian Union. (Star Trek: Section 31)

In 2365, the location of Gamma Trianguli was labeled in a Subspace Comm Net Ops star chart, which was seen in the courtroom on Starbase 173. This system was connected to an unnamed location by a subspace line. (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man")

In 2368, the location of Gamma Trianguli was labeled on the tachyon detection grid that was displayed on one of the viewscreens of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Redemption II", okudagram remastered)

In 2399, the location of Gamma Trianguli was labeled in a star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters. (PIC: "Maps and Legends")

In August 2024, an annotated computer paste-up of the star chart from "The Measure Of A Man" was put up for auction in the Entertainment Memorabiliia Live Auction: Los Angeles Summer 2024 by Propstore Auction. On the chart, Gamma Trianguli and Gamma Trianguli VI are two separate, unique locations. [1]
Information on this system was derived from the episodes and films, from the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and from real world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. The real-world information added to the article was current as of 2025.
