Gene LeBell (born 9 October 1932; age 91) is a stuntman and stunt actor who played the wrestling Klingon in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Apocalypse Rising". He received no on-screen credit for his appearance.
LeBell was born in Los Angeles, California and is nicknamed the godfather of judo and grappling, started these sports in his early years. His mother, Aileen Eaton, was the owner of the Olympic Auditorium which was built in 1927 to host the Olympic Games in 1932. With this background he trained with the most famous boxing and wrestling legends and has become one of the best. He has won over two hundred awards and medals and trained the best martial artists of the world such as Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, in addition to training stuntmen such as Jeff Cadiente. LeBell is also a stuntman and stunt actor and has worked in more than a thousand films and television series. Among the stunt performers he is a legend and is still working in the industry. He still teaches judo and grappling to this very day.
He is married to Midge LeBell and they have two children, one is stuntman David LeBell. He has had pictorials, articles and covers in more than 500 magazines and has done several training videos.
Among his extensive resume are films such as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961, with Michael Ansara), the first three Planet of the Apes films (1968, 1970 and 1972), King Kong (1976, with Rene Auberjonois), The Jerk (1979), Airplane! (1980), The Beastmaster (1982), Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985, with Joel Grey and Kate Mulgrew), RoboCop (1987, with Peter Weller), Tango & Cash (1989, with Teri Hatcher), Total Recall, Dick Tracy, RoboCop 2 (all three 1990), Hook (1991), Army of Darkness (1992, with Dennis Madalone and Patricia Tallman), Waterworld, Strange Days, Money Train (all three 1995), Independence Day (1996), Batman & Robin (1997), End of Days (1999), Rat Race (2001, with Whoopi Goldberg), Men in Black II (2002), Bruce Almighty (2003), Starsky & Hutch (2004), Spider-man 2 (2004, with Kirsten Dunst and Donna Murphy), and Half Past Dead 2 (2007).
He also appeared in television series such as The Munsters, I Spy, The Green Hornet, Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, Matlock, Quantum Leap (starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell), Lois & Clark, JAG, Married with Children, Baywatch, The Wild Wild West, Kung Fu, Hart to Hart, T.J. Hooker (starring William Shatner and James Darren), MacGyver, The X-Files, and Reno 911!.
