Genetic recombination monitor

Nambue treats Michael Burnham's genetic unspooling. (2256)

Genetic recombination was a medical procedure to repair genetic unspooling, a potentially fatal risk associated with certain radiation types.

In the 23rd century, Starfleet starships were capable of performing genetic recombination through an antiproton therapy regimen in a antiproton chamber, though the process could take several hours depending on the extent of the damage.

In 2256, Commander Michael Burnham underwent genetic recombination aboard the USS Shenzhou after being exposed to radiation in the accretion disk of a binary star system for too long. She exited the antiproton chamber before Doctor Nambue could finish the procedure, resulting in the computer to automatically respond that it was a "medical emergency." (DIS: "The Vulcan Hello")
