Geoffrey A. Thorne (born 20 January 1970; age 54) is a prolific science fiction author and screenwriter who has written a number of short stories for the Star Trek anthologies and the novel Sword of Damocles. He also wrote an unproduced episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "The Rivals", [1] not to be confused with the similarly titled episode from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, "Rivals".

Thorne is also an actor and appeared in a regular role in In the Heat of the Night during the 1990s. He also appeared in Diagnosis: Murder, ER, Hill Street Blues, and the film City of Angels.

He became a professional writer after winning Second Prize in Simon & Schuster's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds competition.

He currently lives in Los Angeles, and is an advocate of African American rights.
