Germany is an ancient nation-state in the European Alliance on Earth's Europe continent, with its capital being Berlin. A major player in the planet's history, Germany under the lead of Adolf Hitler was one of the combatants in the Second World War.

One of the most famous Germans of the 20th century is the physicist Albert Einstein who formulated Theory of Relativity. (TNG: "Descent, Part I") The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche who was born in the 19th century is also a well known German, aswell as the 19th century composer Johannes Brahms. (ENT: "Borderland"; TOS: "Requiem for Methuselah")

In the 2260s Lieutenant Karl Jaeger, who had German ancestors, served as meteorologist and planetologist aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise. (TOS: "The Squire of Gothos")

The state flag of Germany contains the colours black, red and gold. Lieutenant Commander Data of the USS Enterprise-D referred to the flag as an example in 2364. (TNG: "The Last Outpost")

According to the shooting script of TNG: "Home Soil" Kurt Mandl was intented to be of German descent, he was played by the German actor Walter Gotell. Dr. Leah Brahms is rumored to be of German origin, too.

Several Starfleet vessels are named after persons or places in Germany:
