A grease monkey was a slang term from the 20th century used to describe automobile mechanics, due to the use of grease in the internal combustion engine.
In 2257, Paul Stamets referred to Jett Reno as "that grease monkey." (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")
Tom Paris named his holoprogram Paris Program Alpha-1 after this term. When an alien posing as "Steth" expressed his confusion over the term in 2374, Paris explained that it was mechanic lingo. (VOY: "Vis à Vis")
