Gregory Irwin (born 21 September 1961; age 63) is a First Assistant Camera Operator who worked as First Assistant "A" Camera Operator on Star Trek Beyond, directed by Justin Lin with First Assist Director Nick Satriano. [1] He previously worked for Lin as First Assistant Camera Operator on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Fast Five (2011), and Fast & Furious 6 (2013).

Personal[]

Born in Long Beach, California, Irwin attended the University of California in Long Beach where he graduated in Cinematography, Film Production and Business and started his career as camera operator in the 1980s. Since 1989, he is the owner and president of Latitude 33 Motion Picture Services, LLC, a camera technology rental company located in Irvine, California, which he is operating with his wife Lisa Lau Irwin. [2] Irwin is a member of IATSE's International Cinematographers Guild and the Society of Camera Operators. In 2015, he has been nominated for the SOC's Camera Technician Lifetime Achievement Award.

Career[]

Irwin first credits as first assistant camera operator include Wanted: Dead or Alive (1987, with Jerry Hardin and Robert Harper), Campus Man (1987), D.O.A. (1988, with Christopher Neame, Robert Knepper, and Bill Bolender), I, Madman (1989, with Clayton Rohner), and The End of Innocence (1990, with George Coe and Madge Sinclair).

In 1990, Irwin was the cinematographer of the horror film Terrorgram, his only credit as cinematographer so far. The film features Star Trek: The Next Generation background actor Mark Kosakura.

As first assistant camera operator he worked on New Jack City (1991, with Bill Cobbs and Thalmus Rasulala), Encino Man (1992), Coneheads (1993, with Michael McKean, Barry Kivel, Jason Alexander, Cameron, and Randy Pflug), and Wayne's World 2 (1993), Batman Forever (1995, with René Auberjonois and Ed Begley, Jr.), Showgirls (1995), the television series Fallen Angels (1995, with Bert Remsen and Miguel Ferrer), The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996), Barb Wire (1996), Bordello of Blood (1996, with John Kassir, Chris Sarandon, William Sadler, and Whoopi Goldberg), Starship Troopers (1997, with Dina Meyer and Clancy Brown), American Pie (1999), Deep Blue Sea (1999), and Fight Club (1999).
