Lieutenant Commander Greta Vanderweg was a Starfleet science officer born in 2338 on the planet Alpha Centauri. She began her Starfleet service in 2363, having transferred to Deep Space 9 in 2372. She had a husband, who worked as a micropaleontologist on Mora V. Her quarters on DS9 were located in section J17.

She was murdered in 2375 by fellow Starfleet officer Chu'lak using a TR-116 rifle. A photograph in her quarters depicted Greta and her husband on their wedding day. The happiness on their faces prompted him to choose Greta as one of his victims that year. (DS9: "Field of Fire")

Vanderweg was portrayed by background actress Valerie Ann Miller, who received no on-screen credit for this appearance.
