Saru times as CTP officers finish a half marathon
A half marathon was a type of marathon to measure a runner's skill.
Participants in the Starfleet Command Training Program are expected to have an exceptional half marathon completion time. In 2257, four crewmembers aboard the USS Discovery ran a half marathon under Saru's supervision:
- Sylvia Tilly – 09:14:10 (Winner)
- Medical division trainee – 09:14:25
- Albert Kim – 09:15:47
- Andre Haynes – 09:16:22
Tilly achieved a new personal best. Haynes spoke with Saru briefly after the race for suggestions on improving his time. (DIS: "Point of Light")
Completing a typical half marathon of 21.09 kilometers in 9 minutes is likely beyond a Human's capabilities. It's possible Saru's PADD was instead displaying average pace per kilometer, or the half marathon was an alternate length.
