A hatch, also known as an access hatch, access panel, access plate or trapdoor, was a type of access point used to enter or exit one area to another, in many cases for maintenance purposes. It could be opened manually or by remote.

After Shuttlepod 1 crashed through the surface on Terra Nova and landed several meters below in a cave, the Novan Jamin requested that the door to be opened. But Captain Archer first asked Trip Tucker what could happen if he opened the port hatch of the shuttlepod. Tucker told him that it would be okay so Archer opened the hatch. (ENT: "Terra Nova")

In August of 2151, the main hatch of the Earth Cargo Service freighter ECS Fortunate was damaged so the landing party from Enterprise NX-01 had to use the auxiliary hatch of the ship. (ENT: "Fortunate Son")

In September 2152, the Takret captain ordered his soldiers to report to the docking hatch immediately when the ship went into the direction of a plasma eddy. (ENT: "The Catwalk")

In 2153, Captain Jonathan Archer blew up an outer hatch of the upper port side of Enterprise NX-01 to decompress the maintenance shaft were two Borg-assimilated Tarkaleans tried to sabotage the ship's avionics control system. (ENT: "Regeneration")

In 2269, James T. Kirk referred to a door that Spock was being ushered through on the Shore Leave Planet as a trap door. (TAS: "Once Upon a Planet")

In 2375, Tom Paris cautioned Kathryn Janeway to beware the tricks of villains from The Adventures of Captain Proton, which included trapdoors and secret weapons. (VOY: "Bride of Chaotica!")
