A Hawking radiation firewall was a phenomenon detrimental to ships traveling using displacement-activated spore hub drive.

A Hawking radiation firewall was determined to be the cause of damage sustained to the USS Glenn in 2256, during a spore drive test. Upon exiting the mycelial plane, the Glenn crashed into an undetectable Hawking radiation firewall. The resulting impact caused all biologicals on board to "spin out", killing the entire crew, as evidenced by violent helical torsion.

However, learning from this its sister ship the USS Discovery soon found a way to prevent this type of accident. (DIS: "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry")

Hawking radiation was postulated to exist by Stephen Hawking.
